Today we’re celebrating our 1-year road-iversary! That’s 365 days on our mega roadtrip around the United States to discover unique things to do.
This journey has taught us a shit ton: about ourselves, the States, and how clutch the right adventure gear can be on the road and in all kinds of situations *cough cough* Hurricane Ian 🌀
So, we wanted to take a second and share our 4 favorite adventure products that we recommend you own, versatile & durable for the road + everyday life:
4 Must-Have Products for Adventuring
In preparation for our Mega Roadtrip, we researched the best gear for self-sufficiency. To work remote while living on the road for extended periods of time, you need gear that is versatile, durable, and uses alternate forms of energy. Our gear goals were to be self-reliant, lightweight, and equipped.
To be clear, this is more than “roadtrippin’ gear,” these products can serve all your adventures: camping, backpacking, traveling, and (as we found out during Hurricane Ian), this gear is essential for emergency preparedness, too.
Here is our favorite adventure gear we live by:
1. Exped MegaMat DUO Mat
This self-inflating portable air mattress with a sidewinding “stuff-sack” is the best damn piece of gear we own. It comes in clutch when we need an extra bed for friends to sleep on, it fits perfectly into our converted Honda CRV for roadtrips, and we love it for tent camping. It’s also beyond comfortable!
MegaMat pioneered this new generation of self-inflating 3D mats with a level sleeping surface from edge to edge, so you feel like you’re on a luxurious mattress. Combined with the perfect thickness, its a synonym for comfort.
2. Jackery Solar Generator 1000 with Solar Panels
Our Jackery, a portable power station, is essential for life! It can power pretty much anything, from home appliances to off-grid activities like working remote in the mountains. It charges our laptops and phones several days in a row before running low on juice. But we typically keep it around 70% with a few hours of sunlight each day. On less fun adventures, our Jackery has been a life-saver, like when we lost power for 2 weeks during Hurricane Ian.
3. PacSafe Venturesafe X40 Anti-theft Backpack
This is the best travel backpack, hands down. We’ve used it backpacking overseas, camping, and it has been the perfect backpack for traveling light on our roadtrip. Just roll your clothes instead of folding them and this pack condenses your clothes tightly like compression cubes, helping you to fit more into a small space. The extra security is nice for traveling, especially if you’re staying in hostels, walking in crowded city streets, and peace of mind.
4. MPOWERD LUCY STRING LIGHTS – SOLAR POWERED
We love our Lucy lights! These long-lasting, solar-powered string lights create the perfect ambience when we’re hammocking in the trees or car camping. In a pinch, we can even use ’em to charge our phones, but we typically rely on our Jackery or mophie powerbanks for that.
5. Portable Windproof Camping Stove
We use our portable camping stove every day on the road. It heats up our water for our morning coffee and cooks most of our meals. Sometimes we cook over the fire, but when fires aren’t allowed, this bad boy is our life saver.
OVER TO YOU!
