A good pint of Guinness can make your day, watching it rest on the side of the bar as they pour another pint. There is a sense of excitement, watching the glass gradually fill up with the black liquid. Plus, there is no time of year when you can’t have a Guinness, whether it is a cold winter night or even a hot sunny day, both periods are perfect for a pint of Guinness.
Due to the increase in popularity of Guinness and the rising prices of a pint, in general, don’t make Guinness an affordable pint. Nevertheless, it is one of the more enjoyable pints that is available.
Although Guinness isn’t a traditional English pint, many bars in England can pour a great pint of it, including in London. However, if you are not from London, you probably don’t know where to go for a good pint of Guinness so, we have compiled a list of some of the best pubs in London that sell Guinness.
1. Coach & Horses, Covent Garden
Coach & Horses in Covent Garden is one of the most popular Irish Bars in the capital and one of the reasons for this is due to the superb pour of a Guinness pint.
The Coach & horses have existed since roughly 1827 so it is a very historical pub in London. It is a regular pub for the locals and also some tourists who have heard about this traditional pub. Nevertheless, it has managed to survive the thousands of tourists due to its placement in Covent Garden. It is a very old-fashioned bar so it is an acquired taste but nevertheless, it will get you a fantastic Guinness which is praised by the Irish Post.
You’ll feel like one of the locals in this pub and you will soon see the hours go by as you enjoy each drop of Guinness as you speak to the locals. Not to mention that the service never lets you down either.
2. The Blythe Hill Tavern, Stanstead Road
Another fantastic and traditional pub that has made the list is The Blythe Hill Tavern, a very Victorian-looking building. What makes this pub stand out from the rest is that it has a fantastic beer garden where you can enjoy your pint of Guinness in the sunshine. The only issue about this classic corner pub is that it’s a fair journey out of central London.
Blythe Hill Tavern not only has a great beer garden, it’s also the perfect drinking spot in winter with their fire and circular tables. Additionally, the bar is overseen by Con Riordan who is originally from Limerick which explains why this pub pours a fantastic pint of Guinness. So, if you are further out of the city, this is certainly the place to be.
3. Skehan’s, Kitto Road
There is no better evening than having a pint of Guinness around a pub table and Skehan’s is the perfect easygoing pub for that. The atmosphere in this bar is second to none as it has music six nights out of seven and is a popular place for a lively midweek pint. For those that want a more relaxed evening whilst listening to music, you also have quiz nights along with karaoke and even meet-ups. This pub is fantastic and the locals are very loyal to this pub because it offers a special night every night throughout the week. Along side a delicious Guinness pint, Skehan’s offers a pool table, a wood-burning stove, a leafy garden, TV sports & live events.
4. The Audley, Mount Street
Taking a step away from the historical pubs, the Audley Public House is a fantastic spot for those who prefer a more modern boozer in a restored Victorian building. Nevertheless, it has picked up a great reputation despite only being open since 2022 due to its fantastic pour of Guinness. If you are going for one pint of Guinness to break up your day, consider leaving your car at a Hyde Park car park and stroll over to the Audley as it is only a few minutes away from Hyde Park.
The only issue is that when it gets really busy, the quality of the pint might not be up to scratch like it is on a day when the bar isn’t busy. Nevertheless, if you are looking to visit this bar on a day when it isn’t busy (i.e in the middle of the week), you can be certain that you will receive a great pint of Guinness at this traditional neighbourhood pub open 7 days a week.
5. The Devonshire, Deman Street
Located in central London, The Devonshire doesn’t have many nights where it’s quiet so to some people, this wouldn’t be a good spot to enjoy a pint. Nevertheless, it pours a great pint of Guinness and the boozer feels very authentic.
Now a lot of people will assume that a busy pub is never good, however, that is one of the reasons why the Guinness is so good here, due to how quickly they go through the barrels. Not to mention that the bar is now run by people who have moved from Dublin to the capital of England. Don’t miss out on The Devonshire! It’s a traditional cosy, welcoming pub on the ground floor, with a wood ember grill restaurant upstairs.
6. Sheephaven Bay, Mornington Street
Last but certainly not least is Sheephaven Bay, which is located in Camden, one of the best spots to visit in London. When you are visiting for the first time, you have a choice for your Guinness. Either the traditional Guinness tap or the new modernised extra cold Guinness tap and you will be asked if you have a preference when you are ordering.
If you want a consistent Guinness in Camden Town, this has to be the spot that you visit. Furthermore, if you are fortunate that Sheephaven Bay isn’t too busy, the bar staff take extra care and offer to bring it over to your table once the pint is finished. This pub just ticks all of the right boxes when it comes to having a Guinness, so if you are in Camden, this is the place to be. This Irish bar has a conservatory, beer garden, and no less than 7 plasma screens for showing sports.
