The Magic of Handmade Paper: An Immersive Experience

In this unique art workshop, you’re not just learning a timeless craft, but immersing yourself in the world of handmade paper. This two-hour class will teach you how to turn plants into paper!

You’ll create approximately 12 sheets of custom handmade paper that can be turned into envelopes, gift tags, a painting substrate, wedding announcements, used for scrapbooking, and so much more.

The transformative experience begins with the natural fibers of raw materials, such as cotton, yucca, and papyrus.

With André’s guidance, you’ll plunge your hands into vats filled with swirling fibers and watch in awe as they weave into something remarkable. Optionally, you can dazzle your handmade paper with dried flower petals, gold leaf flakes, seeds, and other natural accents.

This hands-on adventure will leave you with the skills to turn your old receipts, scrap papers, junk mail, cotton rags, banana stems, and other raw natural fibers into beautifully handmade paper.

And yes, this crafty experience can get a little messy. You might get your shoes or pants wet, but that’s all part of the fun and artistic process, so dress appropriately to let your creativity flow.

From Painting to Sculpture: André’s Creative Odyssey

André’s artistic journey began with an innocent painting class, where he found himself surrounded by a group of enthusiastic grandmothers who nurtured his burgeoning creativity.

He started college with a dream of becoming a painter. Though he is a renowned painter, the world of art had many more plans for him.

André’s fascination with sculpture, weaving, and papermaking soon took center stage, redirecting his creative path.

In the world of sculpture, André discovered a particular love for incorporating textiles into his pieces. This was a pivotal moment that would later influence his path towards papermaking and weaving.

Salt Lake City, with its diverse and thriving art community, became André’s new canvas to share his passion and expertise. Now he can’t wait to share it all with YOU in his unique Papermaking Workshop!
